Abandoned. Left to live in the streets.
Prowling through the night city, looking
For food to feed hungry belly, ribs show.
Cubs yap and moan. But no food comes.
While in warm houses, dogs sleep cosily in their
Warm baskets, not thinking about anything except
Their next meal. Not realising about the suffering
Out in the cold night air.
Skin stretches over ribs, remembering kicks
That sent them away. Remembering loving hands,
Walks, but no more. Owner lost interest.
Making do with scraps from bins.
No food for cubs, silently starving, mother dog
Watching in despair, no milk left to feed pups.
Family lie down to die, huddled together
In a hole. No comfort, no help.
One by one, death consumes.
